Yes, we have an assortment of small motorcycles to choose from.
For the 2-day beginner class you can bring your own 500cc or smaller motorcycle, but we don't recommend this. Ride our bikes, you can try them all.
For the 1-day experienced rider course we prefer you bring your own motorcycle, but you can use a small training bike if you need to. If you are using your own bike, contact us for a small coupon code!
The 2-day class is for beginners, those who are new to operating the controls of a motorcycle. Clutch lever, throttle, front brake lever, rear brake pedal, shift lever, handle bars... there is a lot going on and you'll end up using all four appendages six different ways. We spend most of the first day getting used to manipulating all these controls.
Some people have learned the basics already, riding dirt bikes as a kid, riding in another country, or they've already practiced on their own... If you can pull off from a stop nice and smooth, shift up through the gears nice and smooth, then come back to stop nice and smooth, the 1-day class is for you. (smooth clutch control is important)
Both classes qualify for the certificate to get your "M" endorsement.
At this time The Ride Company does not have an automatic motorcycle to use. In the beginner class we encourage trying to get comfortable shifting gears, and we spend the whole first 3 hours getting used to this process.
If you have your own moped or scooter, you are allowed to use it in the 1-day class, as long as it is insured and passes a basic safety inspection.
If you have your own gear already, great! Keep in mind the course completion certificate may get you significant discounts at some local gear shops!
The only items you need for the class are long pants, a long sleeved shirt or jacket, some form of eye protection, and shoes that cover the ankle bone. We can supply a helmet and gloves.
Absolutely, but minors do need to have a class C learners license, or present a certificate of completion of the classroom phase of a driver education course. (32 hours)
AND have a parent or guardian sign the waivers in front of the Rider Coach.
Maybe. Riding a motorcycle is not easy, but people are awesome and it should become easier with training and practice. Two days, at five hours each day is usually enough time to learn the basics of starting, stopping, shifting and some technical maneuvers.
For the very few that don't pass the riding test at the end of day two, most that sign up again usually ace the test the second time.
We ride rain or shine, hot or cold. If you dress accordingly the class is still tons of fun! Of all the ranges that I've taught at, the HEB Center has the best wet weather grip!
Classes will be delayed if there is excessive lightning. Classes will be cancelled and riders rescheduled if the excessive lightning persists for hours, or if there is snow that accumulates.
